Angly Old Man / キレるオヤジ

Yesterday was sunny day despite the weather forest predicting occasional showers. After long hours of petanque by ocean, we were going home. There was a Fra and Music event at Hiratsuka Beach Park. My son Jay try to hand garbage to his mom and it blew away from his careless hands. That clicked my red button! I snapped and started scolding him like a mad man. I was going to quit, but corner of my eye caught all those observers of the event were looking at the source of grown man shouting. I decided to make Jay a sacrifice and send message to all who were there. I continue shouting like "How many times do I have to tell you to through wastes to waste basket or bring them home". Then added harsh comment to everybody not only to Jay like "Someone like you will contaminate the beach and I will not tolerate that!".
I felt sorry for Jay who is one of the best behaving kid at beach, but I have been troubled with the fact that there are so many "adults" who leave their waste "intentionally" on the board walk. I had same experience when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. My father has been working for an Environmental Office of Japanese government and he was super strict old fashioned dad. We went to picnic and I was hyper. I through a can of fanta orange into woods. My father snapped just like I did and told me to go fetch the can. When I went into deep woods, I was shocked to find so many cans there and could not recognize mine. I cried and reported that to my dad and he shouted me back like he is a mad man saying "Go get all the can you can find there!". I cried and cried while I gathered sack full of cans.... I have learned my lesson and has been careful since then.
After Jay slept, I caressed his hair for a long time.
昨日は天気予報を覆し、終日晴天でした。　長時間のペタンクの後、引き上げようとした時の話しです。フラダンスと音楽のイベントが催されておりました。　そこで、長男のJayがゴミを母親に無造作に手渡そうとして飛ばしてしまったのです。　これを見た私にスイッチが入りました。　大声で叱り始めたら、フラの観客たちが全員、叫び声の方向を見ているのに気付きました。　そこでJayを犠牲にして大勢にメッセージを送る事にしました。　ありったけの大声で、『ゴミはゴミ箱に捨てるか持ち帰るように何度言ったら分るんだ！』とか『お前のような人間が居るとビーチが汚れるから、お父ちゃんは絶対に許さないぞ！』と畳みかけました。
Jayには、可哀そうな事をしました。　本当の所、ビーチに来ているどの子供よりも賢くしている子なのです。　しかし飲んだり食べたりしたゴミを平気でボードウォークに置き去りにしてゆく”大人”に心を痛めていたので、この機会を利用させてもらいました。
実は私も同じ経験があります。　確か3年か４年生の頃、ピクニックに行った帰りに、ファンタ・オレンジの缶を調子に乗って森に投げ込んだのです。　すると昨日の私がそうしたように、環境庁に勤めていた、最後の日本のオヤジと言われた、父に、こっぴどく叱られたのです。　深い森に拾いに行かされたのですが
森の中には沢山の缶があって、自分のがどれだか分らないくらいだったのです。　父に泣きながら報告すると、『そこら辺にある缶を全部拾って来い！』と・・・　泣きながら袋一杯の缶を拾ったものです。　それ以来私はゴミの処理には気を使って生きてきました。
夜Jayが寝た後に、彼の頭を何度も何度も撫でてあげました。
